Arts & Culture Camp

Kuumba Kamp is a component of African American Appalachian Arts Inc. (AAAA, Inc.) and the Kuumba Watoto Urban Youth Institute. This year we will be partnering with Drums Up Guns Down which is an initiative geared towards advocating against gun violence in our communities. KUUMBA WATOTO means “Creative Children” (from the language of Ki-Swahili). For over the last 30 years, Kuumba Kamp has been offered to youth who are school aged (K-12) from 5 to 17 years old.
Drums Up Guns Down is proud to be the official sponsor for This year’s Kuumba Kamp. This will be a (7) week camp that engages youth in the West African Drum and Dance culture and art form, Life Skills & Discipline, S.T.E.M. Arts & Crafts, the performing arts, mental wellness and healthy nutrition. Participants will be able to use all of the skills learned in this year's camp to be able to express themselves, heal and deal with past and present traumas. All participants will have an opportunity to participate and perform at the Annual Kuumba Festival (June 24 2022-June 26, 2022) in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Camp Dates are from Monday June 6th through Friday, July 22nd, 2022.
Kuumba Kamp will be at Vine Middle School 1807 Martin Luther King Jr Ave.
The entrance will be the dance studio, which is located off of Bertrand St.
Camp Times: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-3:00 PM
(Breakfast, Lunch & Snack Provided)
Camp drop-offs begin at 8:00am and pick-up begins at 3:00pm.
Camp fee is $250.00 per child or ($40 per week/per child).
