We are thrilled to introduce the beloved team behind the Atlanta chapter of Drums Up, Guns Down, also known as Drums Up Guns Down 404. This team, comprised of passionate and experienced drummers, is committed to using the power of traditional drumming and cultural education to foster nonviolence and self-awareness among Black and Brown youth in the metropolitan area. The program is hosted at Ose Logbe Temple in Decatur, GA, and is led by the esteemed Baba Sola.

Meet Baba Sola - Lead Instructor and Mentor

Baba Sola is a revered cultural artist and educator with an intimate understanding of traditional African rhythms and their healing power. As the founder of Ose Logbe Temple, Baba Sola has dedicated his life to preserving and teaching the rich heritage of African-centered culture.

His expertise in music-based violence prevention and self-awareness programs makes him an invaluable leader for the Atlanta chapter. Baba Sola’s motivation for joining Drums Up, Guns Down stems from his belief in the transformative power of music and arts to heal past and present trauma.

The 404 Mission

Drums Up Guns Down 404 is dedicated to the healing of past and present trauma through music and arts in Atlanta and the surrounding metro areas. We are a group of like-minded individuals who have actively used drumming and mindfulness to heal emotional wounds, de-stress, and recenter. Our program shares these transformative tools, fostering a culture of nonviolence, inclusivity, and social-emotional intelligence. We educate, support, and inspire young people to develop healthy relationships, manage conflicts peacefully, and become positive change-makers in their communities.

The Drum Program

Like our brother chapter in Knoxville, participants in the Atlanta program will study, experience, and perform traditional drum rhythms, as well as learn about the related history and culture. The 404 program focuses on traditional African rhythms from Nigeria, Senegal, and drum rhythms from Afro-Caribbean cultures. Students will also explore the disciplines of these traditional systems, fostering discipline in their personal lives, self-awareness, and mindfulness.
